In order to ensure sustainability over the entire life cycle of a product, all process steps must be designed to be sustainable in the long term. However, this is not currently the case for most products. An important step on the way to a more environmentally friendly global society is, for example, the widespread introduction of renewable energies. However, the emission-intensive nature of extracting the required metals and manufacturing the components is often overlooked. There are also hardly any scalable processes for recycling the often complex interconnected materials.

New, innovative processes are therefore needed in the area of sustainable energy supply, but also in the area of carbon capture and storage, for instance.
