Our modern and globalised society is dependent on energy in every respect. Currently, however, only about 14% of the world's primary energy comes from renewable sources. Even in rich industrial societies, the transformation towards greener energy provision is proving unexpectedly difficult. However, in the long run, emission-free and safe energy sources are without alternative.
