Sustainable education for a sustainable future

We are thus consistently continuing our path of sustainably implementing technical solutions and thereby supporting women in Kenya in gaining economic independence and new professional prospects.

A completed university degree, particularly in engineering or natural sciences, enables our scholarship recipients to earn a strong, independent income. At the same time, they are empowered to advance their own region and, through their commitment, serve as role models for many other girls and women.

We deliberately focus our resources on university education because we see it as a crucial lever for several reasons. Through our experience with projects in Kenya and our personal contacts on the ground, we know that the transition from secondary school to university is particularly difficult for women. At the same time, a university education, sometimes for the first time in their lives, allows for a change of perspective on their familiar surroundings. This is especially true in countries and regions facing economic challenges. With shift4Future, we want to support people in breaking out of a cycle of limited educational and future opportunities and forging their own path to a self-determined future.

We ensure your donations have the best possible impact:

In implementing shift4Future, funds are used as efficiently as possible to achieve the greatest possible impact. We guarantee that all donations collected are used exclusively for funding scholarships. Administration and organization are handled by shiftTanks on a voluntary basis. Only unavoidable costs, such as money transfers, are incurred. To ensure that donations are also used as efficiently as possible by the scholarship recipients, we have implemented various quality assurance mechanisms. The application process focuses on identifying young talent and determining their suitability for the scholarship. Through our partner network in Kenya, we can get to know potential scholarship recipients directly and gain a personal impression. Suitability assessment is based on a detailed application letter, information about the applicant's financial situation, and evidence of their previous academic and/or professional achievements. A preliminary selection is made using an objective, standardized decision matrix. The shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview and accompanied by a three-member committee before we make a final decision. Particular attention is paid to handling applicants' experiences sensitively. To adequately assess academic progress, mandatory academic records are linked to the disbursement of funding. This allows us to identify any lack of academic progress early on and take appropriate action. Should difficulties arise, we first work with the students to find solutions. Terminating funding is always a last resort. Since funding is awarded on a semester-by-semester basis, there is always the possibility of addressing any issues promptly. Through a mentoring program, in which we support all scholarship recipients, we can identify these difficulties early and intervene effectively. Furthermore, a range of additional benefits are available to scholarship recipients. These include support with academic writing, the development of soft skills, and career guidance. In this way, students are supported in their academic progress and personal development.
